Hi, I’m Harleigh Poulson.
I believe training works best when it strengthens the bond between humans and dogs, fits into real-life schedules, and focuses on what’s possible for both partners. My approach is collaborative, reward-based, and rooted in understanding each dog’s personality while supporting humans in ways that feel realistic and achievable. Training takes time and effort, but when it’s done thoughtfully, it’s not just effective; it’s enjoyable, empowering, and deeply rewarding for everyone involved. Together, we build skills, confidence, and a relationship that lasts a lifetime.
My Approach
My approach to training is rooted in the human animal bond. I believe the best results come from collaboration. Working with both the dog and the human to find solutions that are effective, realistic, and sustainable. Training plans are designed with real life in mind, taking busy schedules, disabilities, and individual needs into consideration. While meaningful training does take time and effort, it should never feel overwhelming or joyless. When the process is clear, compassionate, and doable, that time and effort become not only worth it—but genuinely enjoyable.
Making Training Enjoyable for Humans & Dogs
Training built around rewards and positive moments isn’t just better for dogs. it’s better for humans, too. Focusing on what’s going right builds confidence, clarity, and motivation on both ends of the leash. Rewards help dogs understand what we want, while giving humans a chance to notice growth, enjoy the process, and feel successful along the way. A positive focus creates a learning environment where mistakes are information, not failures, & where training becomes something you look forward to, not something to dread.
Making Progress, One Minute at a Time
Training doesn’t have to be a big production. In fact, short, frequent bursts often work best. A few minutes at a time keeps dogs focused, happy, and eager to learn—without anyone getting frustrated or burned out. These quick sessions are easy to fit into busy days and turn everyday moments into training opportunities, making progress feel natural, fun, and totally doable. Keeping sessions short gives everyone a breather & a chance to think about what worked before diving back in.
A Little Training Goes a Long Way
Training works best when it’s broken down into simple, bite-sized steps. No pressure, no perfection, just clear goals and steady progress that fit into real life. By focusing on one small win at a time, training feels less overwhelming and a lot more fun. Those little moments add up, building confidence, trust, and skills for both you and your dog (and yes, celebrating the tiny victories is encouraged). With patience, consistency, and a focus on the positive, every small step brings you and your dog closer to success & makes the journey just as rewarding as the destination.
