A Lifetime of Learning, One Tail at a Time

My journey with dogs began in high school, raising guide dog puppies and learning firsthand the incredible bond that forms when patience, trust, and love come together. Those early years sparked a lifelong passion, and in 2019, my mentor from the guide dog program opened the door to a professional role training and socializing puppies at a veterinary clinic. There, I learned to work with dogs of all breeds and personalities, discovering that every dog teaches something unique & that effective training comes from understanding, empathy, and joy. In 2023, I joined Canines With a Cause, helping rescued dogs grow into psychiatric service dogs for veterans and first responders. Along the way, earning certifications like AKC CGC Evaluator, QPR Trainer, and CPDT-KA has grounded my experience in proven, positive methods. Every tail wag, every small breakthrough, and every moment of connection reminds me why I do this work: training isn’t just about skills—it’s about building relationships, trust, and hope, one dog (and human) at a time.

    Puppy Raiser 2013

I had the rewarding experience of raising guide dog puppies while in high school and beyond. During those years, I learned firsthand the importance of patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, as well as the incredible bond that develops between a dog and their human. Guiding these puppies through their early training gave me a deep appreciation for how proper socialization, gentle guidance, and thoughtful encouragement set the foundation for a confident, capable service dog. It inspired my ongoing passion for training and supporting dogs of all kinds.

    Willowcreek Pet Center 2019

My professional training adventure kicked off thanks to my amazing mentor from the guide dog program, who recommended me for a gig socializing and training puppies at the vet clinic where she taught. That’s where I got to work with dogs of all shapes, sizes, and personalities. I discovered just how much fun training can be when you focus on play, rewards, and building confidence. It was the start of a career filled with wagging tails, goofy antics, and endless learning (for both me and the dogs!).

    Canines With A Cause 2023

Next, I joined Canines With a Cause as a service dog trainer, bringing years of hands-on experience with dogs of all breeds and backgrounds. At this incredible nonprofit, we rescue dogs and train them to become psychiatric service dogs for veterans and first responders. Every day is a chance to combine my passion for training with a mission that truly matters; helping dogs grow into confident, capable partners while giving those who serve our communities the support they deserve. The work is challenging, rewarding, and deeply personal, and it continues to shape the way I approach every dog and handler I work with.

Forever a Student of Dogs (they are the real Gurus after all)

I believe that learning never stops. In everything, but especially when it comes to understanding dogs. Every dog I work with teaches me something new, and I am committed to continuing education to stay on top of the latest research in canine behavior, training techniques, and welfare. By continually expanding my knowledge, I can better interpret body language, address behavioral challenges, and design training plans that are not only effective but also kind, realistic, and tailored to each dog and handler.

This ongoing learning allows me to grow alongside the dogs I work with, refine my skills, and bring fresh, thoughtful approaches to every session.

For me, staying curious and educated isn’t just a professional responsibility it’s a way to deepen the bond between humans and dogs and make every training experience as rewarding and enjoyable as possible.
